Study of Casino Workers [research overview]

A description of a study of casino workers undertaken by the GMB Union in Scotland (2006, March) has found that:

  • Three-quarters of croupiers suffer from recurrent back and neck ache
  • One in five reports early signs of carpel tunnel syndrome
  • 79% complain of tiredness with sleep disturbance and chronic fatigue commonplace
  • Stress and violence at work is growing compared to the last survey in 2003 with the number of staff experiencing assaults trebling. The incidence of racial harassment doubling and as many as 40% of women workers surveyed reporting sexual harassment
