High School Gambling Prevention Program [Online Resource]

B.E.A.T The Winning Combination: Gambling Prevention Program (2005, August) was put together with the assistance of gambling researchers Dr. Karen Hardoon of McGill University. It was developed as a comprehensive program for grade 9 high school students in Montreal, Quebec.

World Wide Estimate of EGMs [Online Report]

It can be difficult to obtain reliable figures for the total number of electronic gambling machines (both slots / VLTs) in particular jurisdictions... I would imagine it must have been even more difficult to do the same worldwide! The report "World Count of Gaming Machines 2004: A Marketing Research Report" (2004, August) attempts to do this.

I should point out that the figures for several individual Canadian provinces appear somewhat suspect. Obvious examples are figures from both Saskatachewan and Newfoundland & Labrador that totals are 0 when these provinces have several thousand machines each.

Hong Kong Gamblers [Online Report]

The item "Study on Hong Kong People’s Participation in Gambling Activities (2005): Key Statistics" provides relevant details from a prevalence-type study of gambling in that country for both adults and youth. It also includes some comparisons with a similar study that took place in 2001.

In November 2004, there were a series of forums discussing casino development in Singapore. Casino Comps in Ontario [Newspaper Article]

Something that you don't hear a lot about in Canada is casino "comps". Comps are complimentary gifts that are given out by casinos to their best customers (i.e., those that spend that most time and money gambling). The Toronto Star ran an interesting story on December 10th, 2005 titled "Casino high rollers hit freebie jackpot."

The Centre for Gambling Research in Australia has published the report "Young Men and Gambling in the ACT: An Exploratory study in Attitudes, Perceptions and Engagement" (2005, September). It examines attitudes towards, perceptions of and engagement with gambling by young males (aged 18 – 25 years) in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
