Lottery to Finance Montreal Prison

In 1783, the City of Montreal was in great need of a new prison and thought that the best way to raise funds for its construction was through a lottery. Only a handful of these tickets are known to have survived. To find out more about the lottery click "From the Exhibition Room...".
